Random Hockey Questions (Read On)?
1. What would Rick Nash’s number be if it wasn’t 61 do you think? I traded for him in my season in NHL 09 and couldn’t think what to give him (Since Afinogenov has 61)

2. Michael del Zotto or Tyler Myers

3. Anyone who’s seen Tyler Myers play for Buffalo know he could be the best defenseman Buffalo’s ever had. My friends and I were arguing though, if Boston offered Buffalo Chara for Myers straight up should we do it. One side saids Myers is the future and will be around longer the other Chara’s proven and Myers has only played 8 games

4. How are your fantasy hockey team(s) doing this year

5. What offer could be made to the Capitals to actually make them trade Ovechkin (Realistically no Parise, Crosby, Iginla, Malkin and Nash deals)

6. Should screenplays count as literary works? For school I have to do an author project (Mario Puzo) and for one section need to discuss other works besides the novels I read (Godfather and The Sicilian) and am wondering if Godfather Part II’s screenplay could be considered because plays are allowed. Not hockey but just a random thought
Bonus

7) I found a new conspiracy on ESPN.com today. That David Stern had the NHL hire Bettman because he knew he’d ruin the NHL, the NBA’s biggest winter competitor. Don’t forget Bettman was working for the NBA before taking over as commish. Thoughts

Some other Stern conspiracys:

-That he fixed the 1985 Draft lottery so the Knicks could land Patrick Ewing so NY could have a major star to market

-That Michael Jordan’s baseball career was really because Stern secretly suspended MJ for gambling
For the Ewing thing I think it was luck. The NBA was close to it’s peak after 84 (The first Bird-Magic finals) and the Knicks were a good team and had a superstar (Bernard King).

The time to use the fix would’ve been 1979. The argubly lowest point in the league

-CBS was showing the finals on tape delay

-The league was considered "too black" and drug use was well known throughout the league

-It wa s acrappy season, only 3 teams won more than 50games and the only great team (Portland) had it’s season ruined by Bill Walton’s injury

-This was the year of the Kermit Washington incident and the Kareem brawl on opening night

-College basketball was at its peak and the national championship between Johnson’s Michigan State team and Larry Bird’s ISU team had been the most watched in NBA history
scratch that the lottery didn’t exist untill 84

01. Could Nash be 16? How about 62?

02. I am not sure. I haven’t seen either of them. I see their names on here a lot lately.

03. I’d give Myers the chance.

04. I don’t have one because I don’t get it. Yeah, I am THAT dumb.

05. I am fairly certain that there would be NO offer good enough to get the Caps to trade Ovechkin.

06. As long as the screenplay is not based on an existing literary work but is an independent work on it’s own written specifically to be a screen play I think is should be considered a literary work. One based on an existing work or book, not so much.

Bonus:
07. Sports, like politics can be real dirty. It wouldn’t surprise me at all. I have often wondered WHY the NHL picked a b-ball guy.

It always seems like NY teams get breaks. It is more than likely coincidence. That, and the fact they they have the money. I remember the first interview that i saw with Ewing when he was with Georgetown and I am not lying when I say I could not understand a word the man said., Not one word. Fortunately, he got better at speaking.

The MJ thing, really? I thought the whole baseball thing was VERY odd. I guess that could be the reason. How will we ever know?

That Michigan State team in 1979 was awesome. Probably the last time Bird looked really bad in his B-ball career.

Leave it to LITY to set us straight as usual. At least I thought my guesses were plausible. Not knowledgable, but they WERE only guesses.

1.10..Reminds me of Johnnie LeClair

2.Tyler

3.The current Norris Trophy or Myers? I’d stick with Chara

4.Terrible,thank God my football team is doing okay.

5.Make Ted Leonsis President. Not sure if Bettman has that type of power.

6.I agree..Very random thought.

7.It didn’t work, the NHL has caught the NBA for popularity.

-Well,they should have drafted Joe Dumars,a guy who has won a Championship.

-Yes and his dad was murdered because of his gambling.
Joe B- NL CHAMPS… AGAIN!!!! | Oct 26, 2009

1) Nash would have seniority for 61 over Afinogenov in my opinion

2) Del Zotto if you want offense, Myers if you want defense. Both men play a very different style of game. Del Zotto has all the offensive tools to be an above average winger in the NHL if his D doesn’t get better (similar to Wendel Clark and Dustin Byfuglien)

3) Myers has a great deal of potential and Chara is on the wrong side of 30. Unlike Philadelphia which was only missing that one piece, hence the Sbisa trade for Pronger, Buffalo is farther away and while trading Myers for Chara will make them better in the short run, not making that trade will make Buffalo much better in the long ruin.

4) Middle of the pack

5) It would have to be one of the deals that you said wasn’t realistic. Realistically, trading Ovechkin would be akin to trading Gretzky the first time around (unthinkable). Washington would have to be in a similar situation as the 96 Kings (collateral debt) or the 01 Penguins (bankruptcy recovery) in order to move Ovechkin

6) I agree. When I was in school, studying literature included studying poems, novels, and plays – so I would think a screenplay would count as a play

7) Not true, the NHL had to pay the NBA a LOT of money to get Bettman out of his NBA contract. While Bettman was with the NBA, he increased their corporate sponsorship 361%, their TV ratings increased over 200%, and their media exposure doubled. Similar to what he has done with the NHL. Also keep in mind that the two leagues need each other to be healthy as they share a lot of buildings that would never have been built without the two leagues being able to survive (Staples Centre in LA, United Centre in Chicago, ACC in Toronto).

8) Jordan’s year long suspension for gambling is well known in Chicago. Reinsdorf has been vocal about it on more than one occasion while Stern refuses to acknowledge it publicly. It was a way for Reinsdorf to keep his biggest money maker making him money while he wasn’t allowed to play basketball.

My 69 suzuki t125 floods a lot?

in fact, it flooded last night for no apparent reason while sitting there with the tank off to the point of hydro locking a cylinder.

This is the second time this has happened to the point of having to blow all the crap out of the pipes with an air compressor. (it’s a 2 cycle by the way)

the question is, why is it hydro locking and how do i get it to stop.

i’ve been working my ass off to get this bike running. it hasn’t run since 1973. i’ve pretty much got it going, but little things like this escape my knowledge and understanding apparently.

i would like for it to become dependable enough to RIDE without having to be afraid of having to push it back!

since it’s a 2 cycle, what tends to happen is, if i pull the plug out of it and pump the gas out of the cylinders, it’s at the same time pumping oil into the cylinder since it mixes it by itself.. it’s not a pre-mix bike.

what do i need to do to keep it from flooding, and once it has flooded, is there a better way to get the oil out of the pipes???????

it’s locked to the point to where it’s leaking out of the bottom of the engine and through the carb…. it’s amazing… i couldn’t even kick it over once.

aggravating..

If the gas tap is "off" then no more gas can enter the carb. So obviously that is not working.
Next you need to do a carb job. Or even a partial. Pull off the carb and flip it over and take off the reservoir.
You know, this is so much easier if you went and got a book out of the public library on motorcycles. And read it.
Because, what is the use of telling what and which if you know dick?
You will find out that you cannot "hydrolock a 2 stroke" No valves. so the cylinder cannot fill up once the piston passes the intake port.
You could be pre-igniting which stops you on the kick.
Flooding could be because the air cleaner is clogged.
Muffler bearings could be out of tune…
Kick stand has not been kicked in awhile.
It is a fricking "Suzi".

The carb float is stuck or the needles and seats are plugged in the carb. The carb needs an overhaul. Just cleaning it yourself rarely works. Get the carburetor professionally reworked.
Saxster | Sep 28, 2009

The floats, float needle valve, float needle valve seat. These control the fuel flow into the carb. Inspect, clean, replace, adjust as necessary. Do you have a filter? A petcock? They are parts of the fuel system too. Check and/or use them. Is the tank cruddy? The float bowl may be.
Jon P | Sep 28, 2009

Maybe the floats don’t float anymore. Put them in a jar of gasoline and see. If they sink, replace them.

Books like Phenomenal Girl 5 by A. J. Menden ?
You know like a super hero romance ? possibly on E-Book as well but if not that’s alright
here is the synopsis for her book :
Lainey Livingston has just been made a member of the Elite Hands of Justice, the world’s premiere cadre of superheroes. Her work with the Red Knights and the Power Squad was impressive; her apprehension stats are above normal, and her great strength and ability to fly are equally remarkable. But no one gets a free pass to active duty, and Lainey’s next test is going to be her hardest. She’s to train with the Reincarnist.

Robert Elliot, the Reincarnist. A magician who has lived multiple lifetimes, he’s the smartest man in the world – and Lainey’s last obstacle. He was personally responsible for seeing Pushstar wash out. But his eyes are the softest, kindest that Lainey has ever seen, and he’s just the sort to knock her for a loop. Lesson #1: Romantic entanglements among crime fighters are super exploitable, and falling in love with a man who "can’t die" is like waving a red flag at a bull. Especially not when the most fiendish plot ever is about to break over Megalopolis like a wave of fire

When frying a turkey, what's the best gravy without drippings from a pan?

Heinz turkey gravy from a jar.
daeve930 | Nov 20, 2009

I agree with the first answer….Heinz turkey gravy in a jar. It’s really good. Just pour it in a pan and heat it up. No one will know the difference.
mysti | Nov 20, 2009

You can always take the neck, or some store-bought turkey wings this week, and make a turkey stock. Take one and put it in the oven or a toaster oven to get drippings for the fat, mix that with flour to create a roux, then add some of your stock & veggies & seasonings, then strain or puree it.

I’d just do it a couple of days before so it’d be ready. But that’s if you want to go through the trouble of home made.

You could also just take some chicken broth to make some home-made gravy.

make your on gravy
awommack | Nov 21, 2009

You can still make a giblet gravy. Most people discard the little puch inside the tuekey, but it can be delicious. This is from cooks.com.

Cut giblets and neck meat in small pieces and put back in the broth. Add juice from the turkey pan to the broth for gravy. (In your case use turkey stock you bought or premade) Blend 2 to 3 tablespoons of flour with a little cold water in a bowl to make a thin, smooth paste. Add the blended flour mixture with the broth which has been heating. Stir constantly to prevent lumping. Thicken to desired thickness and if you need more gravy add canned chicken broth to the gravy.

How to warm a pre cooked turkey?

I just picked up a large pre cooked turkey from Mrs. Green’s market. There weren’t instructions on how to reheat it. I called and they said 5-7 minutes (I kept asking per pound?) and he kept saying NO. Just warm it for 5-7 minutes at 200 degrees and it will be fine. He said I don’t want to cook it – just warm it. Duh, but my oven is not a microwave! Anyone ever warm up a pre cooked bird? What temp and how long in the oven?

We bought a Butterball Fully Cooked Turkey that was 12.5 pounds from a local store as well. It came with directions that I will share. It might apply to yours as well I would imagine. We also called Butterball at 1-800-288-8372 (1-800-Butterball) and verified that these were the correct instructions.

To Heat Thawed Turkey in a Conventional Oven:
1. Heat oven to 325 degrees F, Remove turkey from wrapper, do not stuff turkey
2. Position turkey (breast up) in open pan about 2 inches deep. Do not add water.
3. Insert meat thermometer deep into thickest part of thigh next to body, not touching bone.
4. Place turkey in 325 degree F oven and heat for:
8-10 pounds = 1.25-1.75 hours
10-14 pounds = 1.75-2.25 hours
16-18 pounds = 2.25-2.5 hours

To prevent over browning, loosely cover breast and top of drumsticks with lightweight aluminum foil after 1 to 1.25 hours

Check temperature of thigh. Temp should be 130-140 degees F when turkey is hot.

I hope that helps. We don’t have a thermometer so we are just going to use the times suggested. When we called, we verified the time and they said we had to cook it that long to heat it up.

I would preheat the Bird to 350 F

RaffiTheMaster | Nov 26, 2008

Preheat your oven to 250-275. Once it has been preheated place your THAWED turkey into your oven. Place it so that the Turkey is approx. 2" from the top of your oven. Cook it for about 5 minutes like the guy said. the trick is make sure you pour about a quarter cup of water into the cavity first. Good luck!!

How much kosher salt & ice water do I need to fill up my Igloo cooler with to brine a 10lb turkey?

OK I know its Thanksgiving is coming up in 1 day and I am not looking to overcomplicate things here. I need a very simple plain kosher salt & ice cold water recipe to brine this 12lb bad boy but really not interested in adding other flavorings or spices.

Not sure how many cups of kosher & ice water I need to brine this simple bird for it to come out moist and tender.

Also, how many hours does this defrosted turkey need to brine for??? 8 hours, 10 hours, 12hours???

And last but not least how long do I cook this 10lb brine turkey for? And what degree should turkey meat be safe to be cooked at?

This is my frist time brining and I was chosen to cook this bird I pray I don’t do anything wrong (making a veggie lasagne just in case LOL)

Thank you for simplifying my life in advance :) Happy Turkey day everyone. :)

BeST Turkey EVER!
Julie M | Nov 24, 2009

Defrosted turkey should brine for 8-16 hours. Some sources say 1 hour per pound. The brine should be made in the ratio of one cup salt per one gallon of water. Better to dissolve the salt in warm water (it dissolves better) and then add ice later. Adding sugar to the brine is optional but helps counteract the salty taste. You need enough brine to cover the bird in whatever container you’re using. Hope you have a smallish cooler!
10-15 lb turkey cooks 3 to 3 1/2 hours unstuffed, 3 3/4 to 4 1/2 hours stuffed; you want an internal temp of 165F. It’s actually better to cook the bird unstuffed, according to Alton Brown on the Food Network. Cooking a bird long enough to get that 165F in the stuffing as well as the meat means overcooked breast meat. Cook the stuffing separately (in which case it’s known as dressing), and if you absolutely positively have to have that presentation with the stuffing spilling out of the bird, stuff the cooked stuffing into the cooked bird.
RoofingPrincess | Nov 24, 2009

You can make a very simple brine of –

1/4 cup brown sugar – 1/4 cup Kosher salt – 1 quart water

and adjust if you need more.

To brine the turkey you’ll need enough to cover the bird completely, and you do not need to brine a 12lb turkey for more than 45 minutes. The meat can only soak up so much. You’ll know it’s ready because it’ll begin to look like you injected it and the the meat will appear bulked up.

Most turkeys you buy nowadays have pop-up thermometers in them. You’ll want the internal temp to be around 165 degrees F, so probably around three hours at 325 in the oven or roaster.
