what do you think of my plot premise?
Living on Earth there is an underground society, banished from their dimension millions of years ago. The reason for their banishment was a war between two rival factions and in an attempt to save civilisation they were exiled to Earth to sort out their problems. Now, some live among us, trying to forget their roots, while others continue the fight that got them exiled in the first place. Both sides are now searching for humans with special ‘gifts’ to help them in their battle against the nemesis.
That is where a 16 year old boy, David Hlossen, comes in…

I like the complexity with the war between rival factions and being sent to Earth to sort things out. It sounds interesting, and I’d probably flip through and read it if it was the blurb of a book.
Plenty of these things have been seen before. People from another dimension? Check. Secret society? Check. Exiled secret society? Check. People with powers or "gifts"? Check.
This doesn’t mean these things are bad. They’ve been done lots of times before because they work. Written well, they become tropes, not cliches, so run with formula, but feel free to tweak it to make it your own.
The whole ’special chosen kid with gift thing’ is a staple fantasy/sci-fi plot that has been done lots of times. I’ve read loads of books with this premise, and IMHO, it’s tiring, but that’s just me being a jaded reader. It can still work, /if/ it’s well written.

Cool idea, but the special talent kid is kind of boring unless its some really extraordinary gift that hasn’t been used before like suppose he has sonic sound waves and can sing people to sleep. Can be really interesting if presented well. By the way if you really do write the story please send it to me to read. I won’t copy or anything because I’m a writer too.

Ok.

So here’s the deal…

My pal’s always holed up in his room writing what he claims will one day be a best seller. Of course, being the close friend that I am, it is my honor bound duty to laugh and jest each time he starts to get passionate about his writing. But just this once, I got curious and red the darn thing.

Not wanting to influence your opinion, suffice it to say that am posting it here for a reason…

It’s kinda sci-fi so bear with me (or him whichever the case might be…)
The novel’s about this girl who grows up to be a world renowned hit man by the age of 12, and is set in 2074 AD Japan Earth. In his book, he begins her journey when she’s just 4 years old and goes into amazing detail, documenting the factors that would lead an otherwise normal girl into the cold emotionless world characterized by her chosen profession. And how she holds her own against cybernetically enhanced competition with all sorts of upgrades and gizmos, to emerge on top.

Below is a short excerpt depicting a short interlude in her life where her now emotionally-dead 10 year old self witnesses a cold rainy Christmas outside a rural household( gotta love the delivery, seeing as I could only nick his rough draft and not the proofread updated version…)

ATI and Nvidia cards in one system: Lucid demo Hydra 200

Last year I reported on the Lucid Hydra 100. For details on what Hydra is and how it works, check that post.

This week Lucid is announcing an upgraded solution, the Hydra 200. Hydra allows two video cards to simultaneously be used in a single system.

Before clicking the Back button, yes I know Nvidia and ATI have been doing this for years with their SLI and Crossfire solutions, respectively.

The twist here is that the Lucid technology will allow you to mix and match both ATI and Nvidia cards. According to Lucid, you’ll even be able to use cards from different manufacturers like EVGA and Sapphire. Lucid says that as long the cards are PCI-Express-compatible and support Direct X 9, they will work and provide an additive performance increase when paired together.

The first motherboard to implement the technology will be MSI’s Big Bang in late October 2009, using Intel’s P55 platform.

From there, we’ll see how well it works out in the real world. With so many different configurations to test for, there are bound to be a few Lucid’s testing team missed, as diligent as I’m sure they were.

Also, how much performance ncrease will you actually see? It had a demo PC running Bioshock and FEAR 2, but to be honest it was difficult to see a noticeable difference between using just one card or both.

It will be interesting to see how ATI and Nvidia respond to this as well, and can they get OEMs like Dell to adopt the technology?

The technology is exciting if it actually works in the real world and they can get enough support from manufacturers and OEMs. I guess we’ll have a clearer picture in a few weeks when Big Bang drops.

Girls…embarrassing pantyhose problem…?
So our winter school uni consists of your standard plaid blue and red skirt, a blue sweater thingy, black sheer to waist (I think to hide any ride up or anything like that) pantyhose and black dress heel shoes. My problem comes with the pantyhose.

Every morning, I have to struggle to get them on, and I can’t tell you how many ******* pairs of pantyhose I’ve ripped or ruined because I have to strugle and fight, lying down on my bed, and getting all sweaty and gross. Keep in mind that the pantyhose are the right size for my legs and I’m not fat. I’m getting tired of getting to school and constantly having to adjust them cause they’re too low and stuff or twisted around my legs ughh!!!!

So my first question, how can I make them easier to slide on? My friend (who can do it in like five seconds, wtf) suggested buying some talcum powder, mixing it with some baby oil and lotion, and lathering that on my legs to lube up my legs. Seems like it would work.

My second question is: if that won’t work, can somebody PLEASE describe a detailed process of how to put pantyhose on properly?

ok here’s a trick. take one of the legs (with your hands on either side) and bunch it up so that you’re holding the part where you put your toes in. put it over your toes and your heel. repeat with the other foot. now you should have the tights bunched around your ankles, which if you grab part of it, makes it easier to pull it further up your leg. then you can stand up and pull the waistband to where it needs to go and pull the rest of the bunch up so that the waistband is on comfortably and not stretched.

the lotion will make them greasy and sticky it might also white powder might show up on them. i think the best way to put them on is to sit on a bed. then hold the pantyhose by the waist band and decide which leg you want to start with. start with half the waist band( the side above the right/left leg) and bunch them up all the way to the toes. pull your knee into your chest and slide the pantyhose up to your knees then take the other leg and bunch it up and pull it up to your knees. get of your bed and stand up then pull the pantyhose up to your mid thigh on both legs. if you think there is enough material to pull up all the way to your waist go ahead and pull them up all the way. if there isn’t enough material start at your ankles and pull up any extra material do this until you get all the way to your thighs on both legs and then you should be able to pull them up to your waist.
also if you start to get little runs or tears on your pantyhose you don’t have to throw them away just get a little clear nail polish and put some over them ripped areas. this will prevent them from getting any bigger.
